Our Name
The Meaning of “Lions”
The lion has long symbolised strength, courage, fidelity and vital action — qualities at the heart of every Lions member. The name also carries a founding ideal: Liberty, Intelligence, Our Nation’s Safety.
Our Emblem
A Symbol Recognised Worldwide
The Lions emblem is a gold “L” on a circular blue field, flanked by two lion profiles and bordered by the words LIONS and INTERNATIONAL.
- Gold & blue: the official Lions colours — sincerity of purpose and loyalty.
- Letter “L”: stands for Lions, at the centre of everything we do.
- Two lion profiles: one looks to the past with pride, one to the future with confidence.
- “LIONS” & “INTERNATIONAL”: a single worldwide association of service.
Our Motto
Two words capture the spirit of 1.4 million Lions. They are not a slogan but a way of life — the simplest, truest expression of who we are.
Our Slogan
The words behind the name LIONS — a reminder that service begins with freedom, wisdom and a commitment to the common good.
